Dear Northern TV Network,
Following on from last November's event with UKTV we are very happy to be teaming up with Screen Yorkshire as part of their Yorkshire Content Fund Roadshow
The Yorkshire Content Fund is a new public-private investment fund for the TV, film, video games and digital sectors in Yorkshire and Humber. It is managed by Screen Yorkshire and has secured £7,500,000 of investment from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which will be further matched by private sector investors on a project-by-project basis. This will result in a total investment of £15m into content production in the region over forthcoming years.
The fund will invest in content creation by Yorkshire-based companies as well as being used to attract productions looking to locate within the region. Investments are made on market rate commercial terms, with the intention that investment returns will produce a legacy fund to support content development and production in Yorkshire for many years to come.
The Yorkshire Content Fund can invest in film, TV, games and digital content including apps, mobile content and web.
Screen Yorkshire's Chief Executive, Sally Joynson and Head of Investments, Hugo Heppell will be on hand to explain how the Yorkshire Content Fund works; how it can be accessed and what is required of applicants; the process for applications; and to answer attendees' questions.

Dear Northern TV Network,
Following on from our September event with Discovery's Elizabeth McIntyre we offer not one but three, guest speakers for this event with Tracy Forsyth, Commissioning Editor - UKTV Home, Good Food, Dave; Julie Swanston, Commissioning Executive across Talent and Development for all UKTV Channels; Sally Quick, Head of Commercial Partnerships, UKTV.
Tracy Forsyth has 17 years experience making and commissioning factual entertainment, entertainment and lifestyle programmes, Tracy works across UKTV’s factual and entertainment channels. Since joining in March 2010, Tracy has commissioned a raft of creative and cut-through shows including; for Good Food, the channel-defining Monster Munchies and for Dave, the forthcoming comedy documentary Jo Brand’s Big Splash. For Home, Tracy has been instrumental in the commissioning strategy for 2011 and 2012 and has been responsible for returning series such as Celebrity Fantasy Homes and Love the Place You’re In and for the launch of numerous new formats including My Flat-Pack Home, Celebrity DIY with Craig Phillips, If It’s Broke Fix It, and What the Neighbours Did.
Julie Swanston has worked for UKTV since 2004 having previously held the positions of Creative Projects Manager, Marketing Manager for Lifestyle and Deputy Channel Head for Watch and Gold. Julie is now Commissioning Executive across Talent and Development for all UKTV channels.
Sally Quick joined UKTV in August 2006 to head up its advertiser-funded content division by forging closer relationships between clients and content across its network of ten channels. Key successes to date include Rhodes Across China with Amoy, which got the Good Food brand into 257 Asda stores nationwide; Mitch & Matt’s Big Fish with Young’s Seafood; three seasons of Red Bull X-Fighters and Carpool with Robert Llewellyn funded by Toyota, both for Dave.
Tracy and Julie will be joining us to talk about current commissioning opportunities with UKTV with steers on particular channels, while Sally will be on hand to talk about AFP and product placement opportunities within current UKTV schedules.
Finally, a quick word about the venue. Unfortunately our regular Leeds venue double booked our event so we had to find an alternative (hence the late emailing of this invitation). We are therefore very grateful to True North Productions for stepping in at the last minute to offer their premises as the venue. Of course, the only minor downside is there will be no bar but there will be drinks provided.
This also got us thinking in an 'Open Studios' kind of way, and we would be like to hear if any other production companies would be interested in hosting an NTVN event. If this is something you would be interested in the please email ntvn@rollingsnowballs.com
With regard to the change of venue, and since we no longer have the cost of venue hire as a consideration, the price of registration for the event has been lowered to £5 and all proceeds will be donated to this years Children in Need appeal.
I do hope you can join us for this event and in continuing to support the Northern TV Network. With continued government funding cuts, NTVN events are currently the only opportunity for us all to get together, pool ideas and bring commissioners and influential individuals from outside the region's broadcast sector, to Yorkshire, and engage directly with you - the content providers.
The format for the event is as follows:
6.00pm - 6.30pm Arrival & Registration
6.30pm - 6.35pm Chris Brooke, Rolling Snowballs – welcome and introduction
6.35pm – 7.30pm Tracy Forsyth, Julie Swanston and Sally Quick, UKTV

TV Club is now NTVN23/7/11
A hotbed for indies, freelancers, and regional BBC and ITV staff to share best practice, pool talent and collectively share screen successes,
TV Club is now
NTVN - The Northern TV Network
Following a brief spell of silence after the TV Club event in March with Channel 4's, Susie Wright (the last to receive funding from Screen Yorkshire), a number of discussions took place to determine the best way forward for the network.
Responses to the events have always been overwhelmingly positive, especially since the introduction of guest speakers attending each event, and the opportunity to book one-to-one sessions with commissioners.
However, since the network no longer receives the financial support it once did, a decision had to be made as to whether the events could remain free or if an admission charge would need to be introduced.
After much deliberation, it has been decided that each event will now have a £10 entry fee. Unfortunately, these are no longer the times when we can get something for nothing. This money goes towards covering basic costs such as venue and AV hire. The network is, and shall remain, not-for-profit. I hope you will agree that the moderate cost is justified by the content of the events.
I believe that a network, which represents the broadcast sector in the North East and Yorkshire, is now more important than ever following the re-structuring of the regional Screen Agencies. And happily, most of you who have attended previous events seem to agree.
It is with this in mind that TV Club has now been re-branded as The Northern TV Network (NTVN). The events will run in much the same manner as they did before and of course your feedback is crucial in making the events as relevant as possible.
There is now an NTVN discussion forum, which you can join on Linkedin. Start a topic, join a conversation, share industry gossip and news, promote a program, or just tell people what you're up to - it should prove a great way for the Network to communicate. For the time being the group is closed, which means you need to ask to join and have your membership approved by a moderator. This is simply to prevent the group being diluted by people with no industry relevance, cranks and people trying to sell you stuff. You can join the group by registering for free at LinkedIn (http://www.linkedin.com/) and search Groups for Northern TV Network.
So, what’s coming up? Well, quite a lot actually...

Our documentary commission for Sure Start has now been completed. The finished work has been uploaded in to the portfolio section of the sight. This video was produced following a very specific brief from the client.
Melanie Davis, Concultant Children's Centre Manager for Sure Start had this to say about the finished film, "The end result was great and flowed together well. Having watched it again at home I could fully appreciate how you managed to get a verbal link between each section. It was great to see it again and appreciate not just the technical quality of the filming but the skill of the editing process. We gave you a tight timetable to get it done and you certainly delivered. We will be distributing it to partner and other organisations over the next week or so (once we have recovered from financial year-end which is always hectic) and will be showing it wherever possible over the next few months."
This was a fantastic project to be involved in. We met some wonderful people and wish everyone at Sure Start and all the families we met all the best for the future.

It was a privilege to be involved in this project, from filming through to the production of the finished product and a special joy to meet Mabel whose vitality and zest for her art should be an inspiration to any aspiring writer.
The DVD, An Interview with Mabel Ferrett, is available through Fighting Cock Press.
MINI MONSTERS MOBISODES ADDED TO WEBSITE5/3/07
Rolling Snowballs online Halloween Monsters series,
Mini Monsters, produced in association with
Mobstar Media have now been added to the site for your viewing pleasure.
Our brief was to produce a series of comedy sketches for the mobile phone market in the vein of
Trigger Happy TV.
During last November if you saw a dwarf dressed as vampire/werewolf/zombie wreaking havoc in York City Centre then it was us.
The sketches star regular
Snowballs collaborator Graham Hughes and were filmed around the city of York employing the skills of York based creatives. The music was provided by York punk/surf outfit, the
Surf Sluts, from their latest release
Surf and Destroyavailable from
http://www.surfsluts.co.uk/
It is a tremendous privilege for
Rolling Snowballs to have reached this stage in its development when it can bring this kind of work in to the city.
The Mobisodes now online here were released initially in the Europe and latterly in Australasia. The response has been extremely positive with thousands of the sketches being downloaded within a matter of days.
This project represents the beginning of an ongoing relationship with Mobstar who are at the forefront of mobile phone and online media entertainment development
Many thanks to all those individuals and businesses in the city kind enough to accommodate us during the shoot especially 1331, The Bluebell and Red Boat.
CONSTANTINE COMMISSION COMPLETED28/2/07
Rolling Snowballs has now completed editing a special project for York St John University Faculty of Arts.
The brief was to edit a sequence as part of a presentation at London's Tate Gallery.
In 2006 York St John Faculty of Arts, in collaboration with other schools and institutions across the city, organised a one day festival celebrating Constantine the Great, who was ordained as Roman Emperor in York, and became the first Roman leader to recognise Christianity.
The day of the festival saw events from around the city build in to a huge procession lead by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Senmatu. The event culminated with a spectacular performance display in the Museum Gardens (giant Roman puppets fighting Christians had to be a highlight).
Filmed by St John's students and academics, our job was involved cutting down the eight hours or so of footage in to a tight ten minute package which showed the processes involved in bringing the performance to life.
Having missed the event itself (due to filming in Scotland at the time) it was great to see the event played out posthumously on our edit suite.
York would do well to encourage more of this kind of activity in the future, which adds colour and vibrancy to the city calendar and makes people proud of their heritage.
AVID ARRIVES!!!19/12/06
Hurrah! After some hackneyed delays our brand new, shiny, High Definition edit suite arrived from Avid today. Merry Christmas to us!
MINI MONSTERS SUCCESS!!!!23/11/06
Today we received a information from Mobstar Media regarding the success of our Mini Monsters comedy sketches.
Around 4000 downloads were made from mobile operator O2 within the first week of release alone and the sketches have now been launched in Australasia.
It was a pleasure to provide this material for Mobstar and we look forward to providing more material for them in the future.
MINI MONSTERS WRAPS28/10/06
Production has now been completed on the Mini Monsters comedy sketch series for Mobstar Media.
It has been a tremendous opportunity for all of us involved in the project as we forge our way in to the uncertain realm of online media production and also tremendous fun!
If you were in York City Centre last weekend and saw a dwarf dressed as a vampire/werewolf/death or a zombie wreaking havoc then it was we!
The sketches starred regular Snowballs collaborator and seasoned film and telly actor Graham Hughes.
Thanks to all those individuals who were good spirited enough to allow us to set them up in a number of ghoulish ways and the businesses in York City Centre who were good enough to accommodate us and our own peculiar brand of mayhem during the shoot especially 1331, The Blue Bell and Red Boat.

It's been a long time coming but our latest documentary
From York to Palestine will premiere at York's
City Screen on Tuesday 23rd May at 6.30pm with a second screening on Saturday 27th May at 3.30pm.
Over two years in the making this film is damning indictment of current British foreign policy and highly critical of this countries historical responsibility for the current conflicts in the Middle East.
The film features interviews from Palestinian refugees, political activists and high profile British politicians.
In an age where Britain's position in the Middle East is causing grave concern at home and abroad and in the wake of rising Islamic terrorism following the invasion of Iraq, this film is a must see for anyone interested in the future of peace in the Middle East and indeed the peace the world over.
Tickets available from
City Screen box office priced £6.50.

Rolling Snowballs latest documentary From York to Palestine will premiere at York's City Screen in May. Exact dates TBA.
SNOWBALLS ANNOUNCES PALESTINE DOCUMENTARY1/6/05
As the furore surrounding the success of Rolling Snowballs first documentary Ales Angels: Blood, Sweat and Beers begins to die down we are proud to announce we are now in production of a documentary focusing on the question of Palestine and the ongoing conflict with Israel.
The film will follow the exploits of the York branch of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) and one of their members, Heather Stroud. Heather is an activist and author who travelled to Palestine in 2003. Whilst there she allowed the Palestinians to film for themselves what life is like under military occupation.
The film will jump between Palestine and the UK as we follow jointly the experiences of the citizens of Palestine and the British people who fight in their name.
Production on the film began last year and no completion date for the project is scheduled as yet.
Rest assured however that the final project will be a thought provoking work with plenty of political bite and not without controversy.
